We like to keep you up to date on the national real estate economy, but as always seems to be the case, what’s happening outside Orange County is not necessarily a reflection of what’s happening inside. Case in point: After six straight months of gains, nationwide home prices fell 0.3% last month from August, tamped down by low prices on distressed properties. However, in California, they’re up 6.9%.

There’s still some good news for the national real estate market though. Compared with the same month a year ago, prices for single-family homes are up 5%, which is the largest boost since July 2006 and the seventh straight year-over-year increase. In fact, home prices are up in every state except for seven from last year. Arizona led in price gains in September with an 18.7% upswing, followed by 13.1% in Idaho and 11% in Nevada. This is good news for the Southwest, especially Arizona, who’s real estate market and general economy suffered in the wake of the Great Recession.

According to one real estate market expert, home prices are responding to better market fundamentals, such as reduced inventories and improved buyer demand.  Additionally, clear signs of stabilization and improvement show promise for a gradual recovery in the residential housing market. This is promising news for all sellers, especially those in Orange County, who are looking to get top dollar for their home.
